WHY BUILD A GUIDANCE WEB SITE?

  1. Great PR for your department.  It is important to add value to the Guidance Department and the school.
  2. Useful to other counselors.
  3. Very helpful to students and parents.
  4. The world is becoming Web based and it's important to be knowledgeable.
  5. Interesting and fun activity.


WEB SITES

  1. Check with your school's tech supervisor for Web access.  Many schools have their own server and space available but don't make it readily available.
  2. If no district space is available, check with the county library system, the local city or township and the county board of education to see if they will provide space or can recommend a free site.
  3. Check out http://geocities.yahoo.com/home/index.htm, http://www.homestead.com, http://www.50megs.com or any of the other free Web site locations.


WEB PAGE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

  1. Use the Netscape Composer as a starter program.
  2. Try Microsoft's FrontPage and some of the other more advanced packages after you become skilled.
  3. You can even use Microsoft's Word 97 or Word 2000 to easily turn your Guidance Newsletter into Web News.
